Abstract. Since the beginning of the 21st century, several strategic documents have been drafted and numerous procedures have been developed for systematizing terminology within the European Union as a basis for setting guidelines and terminology strategies in individual Member States. The aim of this paper is to point out the procedures for terminology planning within the Hungarian community in Croatia using examples from two large projects that are simultaneously coordinated and supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in several countries neighbouring Hungary (in Croatia, the material is collected and processed at Glotta Language Institute in Osijek): the creation of Termini’s Hungarian–Hungarian Dictionary and the Hungarian Terminology Strategy Project TMNP2023-1/2023.Based on specific examples from the two projects mentioned, we will highlight the importance of normative procedures in the minority language, which can rely but to a certain extent on the terminology of the mother tongue when it comes to culturally specific terms or those that arise from differences in the educational, legal, and other systems and domains of the society in which minority communities live in relation to their home country. The paper will explore the methods of terminology planning in the language of the Hungarian national minority in Croatia, considering the differences in the Croatian and Hungarian educational systems, and how terminology planning within the majority influences terminology planning within the minority.

Keywords: terminology planning, language of Hungarians in Croatia, Termini Hungarian–Hungarian dictionary, terminological strategy of the Hungarian language in Croatia, Hungarian terminology of education in Croatia
