Abstract. This study examines Slovakia’s engagement with the European Union’s rule of law framework, focusing on the constitutional provisions, institutional reforms, and interactions with EU oversight mechanisms. It traces how Slovakia’s legal and judicial structures evolved in response to EU accession requirements, particularly the incorporation of rule of law principles into its constitutional order. The analysis considers the role of EU institutions such as the European Commission, European Parliament, and the Court of Justice of the European Union in shaping Slovakia’s commitments to democratic governance, judicial independence, and anti-corruption standards. This study also addresses continuing challenges, including political interference, inefficiencies in the judiciary, and the social exclusion of minority groups. These issues illustrate the ongoing conflict between national sovereignty and the primacy of EU law. This examination clarifies Slovakia’s position within the EU’s rule of law framework and contributes to a broader understanding of how the rule of law is enforced in Central and Eastern Europe.
