Abstract. The paper conducts an analysis of children’s rights in Romanian legislation with a special focus on their application in a digital context. Legal novelties concerning children’s rights in the digital environment have begun to come into effect relatively recently, and the audiovisual and online media content landscape still experiences fluctuations in the process of normative evolution. Protection of children against digital harm is examined from multiple angles: the experiences in transposing European normative acts (developments following the application of the Digital Services Act and experiences for Romanian authorities and other organizations entrusted with the protection of children’s rights in the digital world); efforts of the Romanian lawmaker in improving school climate/creating a safe school environment with safe Internet use (legal provisions and institutional solutions originating from or applied in the educational process), as well as a series of legislative changes (the 2025 revision and amendment of the Regulatory Code on Audiovisual Media Content, or several legal projects). The paper aims to examine the newly existing normative framework also through the lens of pertinent case-law in order to assess the efficiency of these legal instruments and to evaluate institutional responses and practices.
